Vase with a bulbous body and long straight neck
Satsuma, Japan, late 19th century
Porcelain, coloured enamel and gold overglaze painting; scenes with children on the body with regular ornamentation on the neck.
H: 11.8 cm
O 329
Purchased in 1890 from architect W. D. Vivié of Hamburg.
Signed “Kozan” on base – it is very probable that this is a work by the well-known artist Seikozan, but the first character in his name has been destroyed, or perhaps it is a replica that the imitator signed “Kozan” to indicate a connection with the renowned master artist.
